Marvel VS. DC

Marvel VS. DC

There have been debates over whether Marvel or DC is better than the other. We have one universe where it’s all dark and scary, where killer clowns are everywhere and aliens are flying around in a city where they don’t belong. Heroes like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash etc. They fight these villains such as Joker, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Reverse Flash, Black Manta etc. It is a dark and grimy universe with a rainy city and a city with sunshine and roses. So much darkness and violence are what is known as the DC universe. Now in comparison to that universe is the more comedic, fun, happy world with heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor etc. They face villains like Red Skull, Thanos, Loki, Baron Zemo, Taskmaster etc. It’s a universe where everything is mostly cheerful and full of energy. This is known as the Marvel universe and, as you can see by the description of these universes, they are completely different.

The reason I am describing these universes is because it is time to do an in-depth comparison of these two iconic universes. So, the question is, which one is better: Marvel or DC? Many people would say the Marvel Universe is better because of how consistent their movies are and how they have a whole cinematic universe intact with no issues. Their comics are good, and their video game franchise is somewhat doing well with the release of Spider Man for PS4 and Spider Man Miles Morales. In my opinion, all their LEGO games were excellent, but their more recent game of Marvel’s Avengers was not the best. But, other than that, I say the Marvel world in terms of releases with their movies and shows are doing very well. They recently finished their phase 3 of the MCU and recently started phase 4 with a new threat arriving at an unknown time. But, Marvel really takes the time to develop their movies which is why it is such a huge success. For example, with the unexpected passing of Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Marvel delayed Black Panther Wakanda Forever until November of next year, maybe in 2023. But, beyond that, Marvel really takes the time to make these movies because they want to impress us as fans and make sure it is a cinematic spectacular for everyone who really isn’t a hardcore Marvel fan to enjoy. Their video games aren’t bad, except for Marvel's Avengers which is mediocre and could have been better in so many ways. Other than that the majority of their video games are excellent. Marvel's Spider Man and Marvel's Spider Miles Morales are wonderful games to play because they reimagined NYC in a huge way. The storyline is amazing and the transformation from a kid who recently got spider powers and a bit of issues turning into an actual superhero is superb. They developed an awesome story that completely captures Mile’s life in a nutshell while also getting him to become the next Spider Man soon.

Now onto the DC universe. It has been a bit rocky over the years. They had something going with the release of Batman vs Superman, directed by Zack Snyder which set up the release of Justice League 2017 which Snyder was directing at first but then, due to a death in his family, he had to step away from the project. Then, WB hired the director who directed the first two Avengers films, Joss Whedon. They thought it was a good idea at first, but when it came to the release of the movie, it was bad in so many ways. First off, Snyder has a darker tone when it comes to him directing movies. Secondly, they hired the director without even consulting with Snyder himself. Thirdly, WB thought he would be a good addition because the first Avengers movie was good. Finally, according to reports, when he came on the set to finish directing, it wasn’t exactly pleasant to the cast. So, when it came out, it was a complete waste of product because two directors who have nothing in common in terms of directing styles joined together. So, the fans were completely disappointed in the film as well as myself because I was hoping for a well-directed, action-packed movie and I didn’t get that. After that movie was released, all the fans complained to the director as well as the studio for writing and directing such a terrible movie. There were hundreds to thousands of tweets chanting “Restore the Snyder verse” and apparently the studio heard enough to let it happen. The 4-hour long Justice League version is currently available to stream on HBO MAX as well as on DVD and Blu-Ray. There are many DC movies that are not connected to the DCEU and it is due to controversy within the studio deciding what is in the DCEU and what isn’t in the DCEU. But, their animated movies have been very successful in terms of keeping everything in the same universe and connected. Their video games have been successful as well. The Batman Arkham franchise, Lego Batman 1 and Lego Batman 2 were good, and that is pretty much it since they don’t really have enough video games.

Overall, in terms of which universe is better, I believe there is an obvious choice here and that is the MCU franchise is way better than the DCEU. This is because the MCU has a much more functioning track record in terms of great releases in movies and video games since their games are very interesting and engaging. Plus, there are a lot of these successful games that connect to the franchise within the MCU. They will keep making more movies and their franchise will still be amazing as ever. If DC can get their act together then maybe I will like their franchise but, other than that, I am excited for the Batman and the Flash movie from DC. To conclude, DC isn’t looking too good in terms of being better than Marvel.
