The Future of the Gaming Industry

The Future of the Gaming Industry

Once upon a time, Microsoft bought Activision, the studio behind the Call of Duty franchises. Additionally, SONY bought Bungie, the studio behind Destiny. What is next in the gaming world? Which studio or studios will be bought out next? Activision is having some problems in terms of workers and some sexual misconduct. This is a warning that, in this article, Activision will bring up a lot of controversies.

Call of Duty has been a franchise that has had its ups and downs over the past couple of entries. Some of their games were fantastic like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty Black Ops III, and Call of Duty Black Ops IV. As well as some not-so-good ones such as Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty Vanguard, and Call of Duty WWII. The two recent ones were not that great, particularly Vanguard. At this time, the company was still undergoing serious accusations based on the workers and the owner being accused of sexual allegations. However, ever since Microsoft acquired Activision, there have already been changes being made toward their management skills to make the company hopefully better for all Call of Duty players.

Next up we will discuss SONY. This has been a very successful company in terms of movies, games, and consoles. Of course, we must give credit to the Spider-Man movies from Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland and, the man who started it all, Tobey Maguire. The Andrew Garfield movies haven’t done as well as everyone hoped they would, but he is a good actor nonetheless. Tom Holland’s movies were all good and directed well. Last, but not least, Tobey Maguire’s movies were all amazing, except for Spider-Man 3. This movie wasn’t well-received by critics and audiences alike. Nevertheless, he was a phenomenal actor. When it comes to games, the Uncharted series was a huge success. Both Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were well received and enjoyed by audiences. The Ratchet and Clank franchise was another amazing franchise that was well received from the world. Finally, the PS5 has been released by SONY, and sales have gone through the roof. They even had to shut down production for a while just to keep up on demand.

Now that you’re caught up with SONY’s past, it is now time to talk about the future of their company. Bungie, the studio that made the Destiny games, is probably a big step for SONY to make a fresh start into a new franchise or a restart to an old one. Destiny 2 is out, and I did not like the Destiny franchise myself, but I heard it came with a mix of responses. Now it is time to ask, what is the future between these two big franchises? What is next for Microsoft and their Xbox? What is next for SONY and their PlayStations?

Activision is a big-name company that has done well in the past, pleasing fans all over the world by providing awesome games. However, their management needs to be worked on. Other than that, I have a feeling that Activision might bounce back since they are releasing another Call of Duty game this year, rumored to be a sequel to Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone 2, another battle royale game similar to Fortnite but without the building. There aren’t any recognizable games beyond the Call of Duty franchise. SONY buying Bungie could open the door to many new games and franchises in the future.

Ubisoft, T&T games, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Epic Games, and others like these have all not been claimed by Microsoft or SONY. So now, the question becomes, which company might be bought by the other? Will Microsoft buy EA, or will SONY buy Take-Two Interactive? The possibilities are endless really. No one will know exactly what the gaming companies will do next. Whatever it is, I sure hope it is well worth the money, since some of these companies have made many big products. An example of this is Take-Two Interactive, which is responsible for the Grand Theft Auto series and Red Dead Redemption series. Also, Ubisoft with the Watch Dogs series, Assassin’s Creed franchise, and the Division franchise. Also, now rumored to release an Avatar game and an open-world Star Wars game. Anything is possible in gaming if the company wants it as well as the fans.
