Movie Releases for 2022

Movie Releases for 2022

The year 2021 is almost over and there are a plethora of movies that have yet to come out or have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Movies have been pushed back from this year and pushed back into next year. Some of them have release dates and others don’t. In this article, we will go over what is left for this year.

We still have Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home takes place after the events of Avengers Endgame. The world is back to normal after the events of the blip as well as taking place after Spider-Man: Far from Home when his identity was shown to the world. All he wants is for everything to go away. He went to Doctor Strange wanting a spell to get rid of it all, but he botched it up and introduced the Sinister Six. However, they are all from different universes where Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were Spider Man. The villains include Doctor Octopus, Electro, Green Goblin, Sandman, and the Lizard. The sixth villain is still unknown, but since another person from Spider Man history entered the MCU, there is a rumor that he might make an appearance. Alas, this hasn’t been confirmed yet. The film hits theaters December 17th, 2021. Around the same time as Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Kings Man movie hits theaters which is a prequel film to show how the organization started out. It takes place during WWI with the villain being Rasputin and it hits theaters December 22nd, 2021.

There is a movie that has been wanted for so many years and it has finally come to fruition. It is the Matrix Resurrections which is starring Keanu Reeves returning as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising her role as Trinity. However, most of the cast is full of new actors such as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus rather than Laurence Fishbourne, Johnathan Groff as an unknown role, Neil Patrick Harris as a therapist and many other actors and actresses for unknown roles. It hits theaters and HBO MAX on the ad-free plan December 22nd, 2021. On the Disney side of things, there is the Book of Boba Fett set to release on December 29th, 2021.

That is the end of 2021, and then the New Year begins. There are many things to look forward to in the new year when it comes to movie releases. There are some new titles that have not been confirmed yet. The first movie that comes out is Scream (This is technically the 5th one in the franchise). New actors such as Jack Quaid from the Boys and other young actors. It is slated for release January 14th, 2022. The second movie coming out is Morbius. It stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius who transforms into a living vampire. He is a doctor and pledges an oath to never take a life, but he doesn’t know how not to since he needs blood to live. The film comes out January 28th, 2022. After that is one of my favorites, Uncharted which stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Sully. It is a brand-new adventure which takes inspiration from the video games Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3. It reaches theaters on February 18th, 2022.

In March is The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Paul Dano as The Riddler. As well as Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, Jeffery Wright as James Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone etc. It takes place in the early years of Batman's career, and he is more terrifying than in the other movies. It hits theaters March 4th, 2022. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes out in April 2022 starring Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Jim Carrey returns as Dr. Robotnik and Colleen O’Shaughnessy as Tails. Next is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not much is known about the film although Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as Dr. Strange as well as Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda from her Disney Plus show WandaVision. John Wick Chapter 4 comes out on May 27th, 2022. Unfortunately, not much is known about the film. Lightyear is next, which stars Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear. It hits theaters June 17th, 2022. Minions The Rise of Gru on July 1st, 2022. Another movie I am excited about is Thor: Love and Thunder. In this film, almost every actor/director from Thor Ragnarök is returning. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thomson as Valkyrie, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast is supposed to be coming in this movie as well. Finally, Christian Bale is playing the villain Gore the God Butcher. Black Adam starring Dwane “The Rock '' Johnson is his movie while facing the Justice Society of America which include Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Cyclone. It comes out on July 29th, 2022.

Mission Impossible 7 is set to release after that fantastic Mission Impossible Fallout. Tom Cruise is returning as Ethan Hunt, Simon Pegg returns as Benji Dunn and Ving Rhames returns as Luther Stickell with newcomer Haley Atwell as Grace. It is set to release on September 30th, 2022. Spider Man Across the Spider Verse was just announced and still not much is known about the film except for the cast as Oscar Issac as Spider Man 2099, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider Gwen, and Shameik Moore as Miles Morales. It is slated for October 7th, 2022. The Flash starring Ezra Miller is slated for November 4th, 2022, with appearances by Michael Keaton’s Batman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Finally, the last movie that is supposed to be coming out this year is Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Not much is known about the film but most of the cast is returning as well as newcomer Dominique Thorne who will portray Iron Heart. It is slated for November 11th, 2022.
